My Priorities

Listen, learn, and advocate for students, teachers, and staff

I will advocate for, and support, the best educational experience for students with diverse backgrounds, identities, and learning styles.

Be a voice for reading literacy, science, and the arts

A well-rounded education will serve our students throughout their lives. I will support efforts to improve reading literacy rates and enhance learning opportunities in all disciplines across the district.

Advocate for increased mental health support for students

Social and emotional support of our students is critical for their well-being throughout their entire academic career. Students need to feel safe and comfortable to focus on learning.

Foster transparency and principles of an open government

I believe we are all better served by open, honest, and transparent conversation that can lead to better informed policy.

ABOUT ME

Running to Serve

We moved to Moorhead five years ago from Brookings, South Dakota when my spouse joined the faculty at Minnesota State University Moorhead. As a parent to two wonderful girls attending Moorhead Area Public Schools, I have a personal interest in keeping Moorhead schools going strong. I want our schools to work for and support all the students in our community and prepare them for bright futures in whatever paths they choose. I view public education as the foundation of a strong, healthy community. Serving on the Moorhead School Board would combine my desire to serve my community with my dedication to education.

Guided by Science

My parents, who were both educators, instilled in me a strong respect for education. My love of learning led me to continue my educational career in graduate school where I received my doctorate in biology from the University of Missouri. After graduate school I wanted to use my background in science to address ecological and environmental challenges faced by both people and nature. This led me to my current career as a Lead Scientist for a local conservation non-profit. In  my career and in my life, science guides my decisions  alongside understanding the community context and challenges that people are facing in any given situation, especially the most vulnerable or underrepresented groups.
